JINAN, China (2nd FIBA Asia U16 Championship for Women): Last edition’s silver medalists Japan carried too many guns for Philippines and won 102-27 to keep their slate clean with four wins from as many games.
Coach Hayashi Shinichiro, who faces the Korean test on the morrow, used his entire roster in different combinations for entire quarters saw that all his players scored – five of them in double-digits.
Ai Yamada was the highest scorer with 16 points.
“We wanted to get as much court time as possible before we go into the tougher games,” said Shinichiro.
“Each game from now on is as good as the final as far as we are concerned,” he added.
“We also wanted to try out different combinations,” Shinichiro explained about the ploy to use his players in batches for entire quarters.
“We wanted to see how they react and respond with each other in different combinations,” he added.
